For people who use Docomo, the monthly mobile bill is one of the largest fixed costs they have. The d CARD PLATINUM combines points returned on that bill, when it is paid by the card, with the usual platinum privileges. Its official slogan is "a return worthy of platinum", and the annual fee is 29,700 yen (tax included). NTT Docomo began offering the card in November 2024.

This article looks at the d CARD PLATINUM (the Platinum below) and asks whether its fee is matched by what you receive. At the top of the official page is a notice that point rates, award conditions and the annual fee are planned to be reviewed from December 2026. The fact that nobody can say how long today's terms will last is part of the decision.

Annual fee

29,700 yen (tax included). Subject to screening.

Docomo bills

On eligible Docomo charges, 20% in the first year and 10-20% from the second year.

Annual spending bonus

Up to the equivalent of 40,000 yen (tax included), according to the previous year's shopping total.

Airports

Priority Pass for the main member only, free for up to 10 uses a year.

What to know before you apply

Even a card with a modest fee has points that are easy to overlook.

The details below follow the official d CARD website as of October 30, 2026. The official page says a review of point rates, award conditions and the annual fee is planned from December 2026. What the review will bring could not be confirmed for this article. The terms shown at application are the final reference.

A review is planned from December 2026

At the top of the page it says that point rates, award conditions and the annual fee will be reviewed from December 2026. Details are said to be on another page, and the post-review terms could not be confirmed here. Read the figures below as current conditions, and check the review before you apply.

The rate depends on your Docomo contract

The 20% return applies to eligible Docomo charges. The page states that charges for docomo mini, irumo, ahamo and ahamo Hikari, as well as device payments and handling fees, are partly excluded. If your contract falls in those plans, less of your bill qualifies.

From the second year, the rate follows your shopping total

The rate is 20% in the first year. From the second year it is 10-20%, according to the shopping total (tax included) from the 16th of the month before last to the 15th of the previous month. If you shop little with the card, the return on your Docomo bill falls too.

The bonus can shrink at exchange

The page says the annual spending bonus may become coupons worth less than the stated amount, depending on what you exchange it for. One example given is a 10,000 yen bonus becoming a 7,000 yen coupon. You cannot assume the face value.

Can the 29,700 yen be recovered?

The annual fee of 29,700 yen (tax included) is about 2,475 yen a month. The calculation below uses only figures on the official page and assumes one point is worth one yen, with a base return of 1%, which is one point per 100 yen (tax included).

By shopping spending

The annual spending bonus on the page is as follows. The Platinum amounts apply to distributions from 2025 onward.

Previous-year shopping total Base points (1%) Annual bonus Total Against the 29,700 yen fee
1,000,000 yen 10,000 10,000 yen equivalent 20,000 −9,700 yen
2,000,000 yen 20,000 20,000 yen equivalent 40,000 +10,300 yen
3,000,000 yen 30,000 30,000 yen equivalent 60,000 +30,300 yen
4,000,000 yen 40,000 40,000 yen equivalent 80,000 +50,300 yen

On this calculation the fee is exceeded at around 2,000,000 yen a year. If the bonus shrinks at exchange, or if some payments are excluded, the real amount is smaller. The page says that Edy top-ups, nanaco top-ups, cash advance repayments, various fees and the annual fee are excluded from the shopping total.

By the Docomo bill

The return on the Docomo bill can be calculated separately. Suppose eligible charges are 8,000 yen a month before tax. At 20% that is 1,600 points a month, or 19,200 a year. If the rate fell to 10% from the second year, it would be 800 points a month, or 9,600 a year. Both are assumptions, and real bills and rates depend on your contract and use.

Add this to base points and the annual bonus, and only then compare with the fee. The design favors households with large Docomo bills.

Priority Pass and the restaurant benefit

Two privileges are typical of platinum.

Priority Pass

About 1,600 airport lounges in more than 600 cities across 148 countries and regions are free to use. According to the page, the service is for the main member only, and is free for up to 10 uses a year. Registration on the Priority Pass site is needed. The service is provided and operated by Priority Pass.

Restaurant benefit

At about 200 well-known Japanese restaurants selected by Shotai Biyori, one person's course is free. It is for the main member only, and registration on the Dining by Shotai Biyori site is needed. The service is provided and operated by Field Planning Co., Ltd.

How the points build up

Here is how the points work.

  • Shopping: one point per 100 yen (tax included), with the card or with iD. At d Point partner shops, showing the d CARD earns more.
  • Docomo bills: up to 20% of the pre-tax amount of eligible charges.
  • Docomo Denki Green: points returned as a d CARD benefit, according to your area.
  • d CARD instalments: up to 3.1% in d Points on monthly fund instalments, depending on the amount and account type. This is the first-year condition.

The instalment conditions

In the first year, for a NISA account, the return is 3.1% on instalments of 1,000 to 50,000 yen, 2.6% on 50,001 to 70,000 yen, and 2.2% on 70,001 to 100,000 yen. For non-NISA accounts the calculation differs by band. Rates from the second year are shown in a separate table. For people who invest by instalment these figures matter, but check the conditions.

Mobile protection and shared benefits

The page lists "worry-free, full mobile protection" as an attraction of the Platinum. Details are on another page, and this article could not confirm the contents and conditions of the protection, so it gives no amounts. Check it before you apply.

Shared d CARD benefits listed include the d CARD payment discount, benefits when d Barai is set to pay with the d CARD, the iD electronic money feature, and changing the digital card face.

Basic information

The annual fee is 29,700 yen (tax included). To apply you must be aged 20 or over (excluding students) with a stable, continuing income, hold the card in your own name, set an account in your own name as the payment account, and meet other conditions set by the company. Family cards and ETC cards are available as added cards, but the page that was checked does not state their fees.

If you hold a d CARD GOLD and switch to the Platinum, the page says that, depending on the card number, part of the annual fee difference may be refunded. The applicable card numbers are listed on the page.

Different kinds of users

The result depends on how you use the card. Three scenes follow, all assumptions.

A household with large Docomo bills

A household that pays the family's Docomo bills together on this card gains most from the 20% return. Check first that the contract is not on an excluded plan.

Someone who spends a lot on shopping

Someone who puts 2,000,000 yen or more a year on the card passes the fee more easily through the annual bonus. It assumes you gather daily payments on one card.

Someone who does not use Docomo

Without a Docomo contract, the appeal of the 20% return does not apply. You would judge on the annual bonus, Priority Pass and the restaurant benefit alone, and compare with other platinum cards on the same footing.

First steps after joining

Most benefits need registration.

  1. Set the Docomo bill to the Platinum. The return applies when payment is set to this card.
  2. Register for Priority Pass on its site.
  3. Register for Dining by Shotai Biyori on its site.
  4. Record your yearly spending. The annual bonus is decided by the previous year's total.

Comparing with other platinum cards

Axis What can be confirmed for the Platinum
Source of value Docomo bill return and the annual spending bonus
Conditions 20% in year one; 10-20% from year two by shopping total
Travel benefits Priority Pass up to 10 times a year; main member only
Outlook A review of rates, conditions and fee is planned from December 2026

The value changes greatly with whether you use Docomo. Set it beside the other platinum cards in the same fee range and see which matches your life.

Who the card suits

The Platinum offers Docomo bill returns, an annual spending bonus, Priority Pass and a restaurant benefit for 29,700 yen (tax included). A review of rates and the fee is planned from December 2026, so checking it before you apply is essential.

Three checks help the decision:

  1. Is your Docomo bill on an eligible contract, and how much is it a month?
  2. Can you put 2,000,000 yen or more a year on this card?
  3. Will you actually use Priority Pass and the restaurant benefit?

If you can answer yes to two or more, you can use the fee well. If you do not use Docomo, compare other platinum cards before you decide.
